New-Zealand Education System
The education system in New Zealand is a three-tier model with primary and intermediate level, secondary level and tertiary education including universities, Institutes of Technology, Polytechnics, Private Training Establishments and Industry Training Organisations and polytechnics. The education system in New Zealand helps students to focus more on solving problems, to process information, work in team with more emphasis on creativity and innovation. Educational institutions offer qualifications at every level - certificates, diplomas, graduate and post-graduate degrees.
Although the academic year in New Zealand varies between institutions, for university students the courses run generally from late February to mid-November.

Test Requirements
Students who want to study at a New Zealand university need to meet a University Entrance (UE) standard. International students must fulfil minimum English language requirements for enrolment at tertiary institutions. Students applying to different academic programmes in New Zealand are expected to be a competent user of English language. The English Language requirement for admission to different institutions vary based on the criteria set out by the academic institutions and the level of programme opted for.
Average Cost for Education
New Zealand’s flexible education system has study options to suit every budget. Tuition fees for international students vary depending on the type of course chosen, level of programme, place of study and how long one studies for. On average, an international student can expect to pay NZ$17,000 to $25,000 per annum. An international student studying in New Zealand for more than one year will have to prove that he/ she has at least $15,000 to support himself/ herself for the first year and if less than one year a minimum of $1250 for each month of study to contribute to one’s living expenses.
Work Rights & Stay Back

Work Opportunity: Part time work up to 20 hours per week, and full-time during scheduled holidays.
International students studying for qualifications below degree level will only be able to work for a maximum of two years after their courses finish, and in most cases for only one year if they study in Auckland.
Minimum wage per hour: NZ$15.25 an hour on average (though students may earn more than this).
Stay-back after graduation: 3 years
Permanent Stay: After the post-study work visa, the applicant may be eligible to apply for a New Zealand resident visa under the Skilled Migrant Category. If your area of study and work comes under the shortage skill list category, this improves the applicant’s chances of being allowed to stay, either with work visas or residence.
Spouse Work Rights & Visa option
The fulltime international students in New Zealand are also allowed to bring their spouse or partners in New Zealand. The spouse can apply for the fulltime work visa only if the partner is an applicant for the fulltime undergraduate course listed under short skills category or the student is studying a Masters or PhD level course.
